Beginners Courses

Archery is a fun and rewarding sport.  And almost everybody can give it a go!  To anybody looking to try out archery we would strongly recommend doing a beginners course with an archery club.  In order to practice archery safely, there are several points of safety that every archer needs to learn.  Beginners courses are supervised by experienced coaches and provide a safe and controlled environment in which to learn the basics of target archery

Before becoming a member of Galway Archers an individual must have completed a beginners course with Galway Archers or with another Archery Ireland affiliated club.  A beginners course takes place over 6 weeks, with a one hour lesson each week. In these lessons you will learn about safety, form and technique, the technical aspects of archery equipment, and how to maintain and assemble a bow.  You will be introduced to basic FITA Form (Olympic style recurve shooting).  By the end of the 6 week course you will be shooting at a distance of 18 meters indoors.  All equipment including recurve bows, arrows, arm and chest guards, and finger protection will be provided.

For the pricing information, please refer to our Pricing page.  Courses are run regularly at our Salthill venue throughout the year, each course accommodating around 10 to 15 people, subject to equipment availability.  Course attendees must be 12 years of age or older.  Check out our Club Calendar to see when we are holding our next beginners course and if interested you can register your interest using our Beginners Course Registration page.  We normally have a waiting list for beginners courses, so get in touch early to avoid disappointment.
