Archery is a fun and rewarding sport. And almost everybody can give it a go! To try out archery we recommend doing a beginners course with an archery club. These courses are supervised by experienced coaches and provide a safe and controlled environment in which to learn the basics. Importantly they focus on teaching several points of safety that every archer needs to learn.
Membership of Galway Archers is open to everyone over the age of 12 through three routes:
Transfer from another Archery Ireland club
Following a competence and safety assessment for persons that would describe themselves as a lapsed or self taught archer, or former members of other archery associations. An assessment can be arranged via our club contact form, confirmation is required.
Following completion of a beginners course with Galway Archers or another Archery Ireland club
creating an account on the Archery Ireland membership portal Just Go does not automatically grant or approve membership
Before becoming a member of Galway Archers an individual must have completed a beginners course with us or with another Archery Ireland affiliated club. A beginners course with Galway Archers takes place over 4 weeks, with a two hour lesson each week. In these lessons you will learn about safety, form and technique, the technical aspects of archery equipment, how to maintain and assemble a bow, and be introduced to the basic techniques. All equipment including recurve bows, arrows, arm and chest guards, and finger protection will be provided.
Courses are run periodically through the year at our Salthill venue. These courses are scheduled subject to the availability of club coaches. Course attendees must be 12 years of age or older. Subject to the availability of coaches, courses will be announced periodically via our Facebook page, at which point we will open our registration form and take participants on a first come, first served basis. We do not maintain a waiting list.
